Dry Fasting

I haven't heard much about dry fasting, which is fasting without drinking anything at all. Some people actually do dry fasts where they don't bathe, wash dishes, brush their teeth or have any kind of contact with water. That just sounded way too harsh for me but I was willing to give the soft dry fast a try.

Since the beginning of the year I've done 3 or 4 dry fasts lasting almost 48 hours. I was so surprised that dry fasting is actually much easier than water fasting. When you start drinking the water it makes you hungry. Dry fasting was a breeze up to the 44 hour mark, more or less. Then I started getting light headed and thirsty and it was time to break the fast. Even though the weight loss was very rapid, it was also mostly water which came right back the next day when I started eating and drinking.

Since it's been almost a year since my last long 10 day fast, I thought it was time to embark on a new way of fasting. I started 5 days ago and I've been mixing up water and dry fasting. Started with 44 hours dry, then 4 hours water. Next day 24 hours dry then 6 hours water. Following day 16 hours dry and 8 hours water and so on. Starting with a dry fast was super helpful as it was much easier getting through the toughest days. Even days 3 and 4 were smooth sailing. The weight loss has also been more significant as I've already lost almost 4 kg in 5 days as opposed to the 5kg I lost during my 10 day fast, even though I have much less extra fat on me than last year. I hope that it will be just as easy to maintain afterwards. Will keep you guys posted!

How to Break a Water Fast

As always there's quite a bit of conflicting information out there about how to break a fast. One thing everyone agrees on is that the fast needs to broken slowly and gently. You also need several days to go back to eating normally. For example, if you do a 7 day fast, you need about 3 days of refeeding. On a 10 day fast, you'll need 4-5 days and so on. How you break the fast will make or break the whole experience. If you go right back to your old way of eating, you can easily negate all the benefits of your fast. One school of thought insists on breaking the fast with fruit, more specifically watermelon and then lots of veggies and more fruit. Since my goal is to remain in ketosis, I will be taking a different approach. I will be eating protein, fat and some low-carb veggies, bone broth and lots of water. I would also recommend abstaining from alcohol for at least a few days so you're not overburdening your liver. Listen to your body. Don't force the food if yo

4 Months Later - Fasting - Carnivore - OMAD

I know it's been a while since I've done an update. So here we are at the beginning of September already. Things are progressing really nicely. So much better than I ever imagined. I've slowly transitioned to a mostly Carnivore diet , consisting or meat, eggs and dairy with very little veggies and no fruit. I've continued fasting on a regular basis. Basically having just one meal a day on most days (OMAD) and then still doing regular water fasts as I feel the need. My weight continued to decrease slowly but very steadily. I wasn't expecting this at all. I would have been very happy just maintaining my weight under 70kg and here I am at 62kg. How cool is that? Yeah, I'm sure excited.  Here's my latest before and after pic. Hopefully you guys can see the difference. I can tell you that I feel so amazing! I've had to buy a whole new wardrobe. I know, the horror, eh? I've stopped taking all my supplements. My eczema is a thing of the past. My Has

8-day Water and Dry Fast Combo

As I'm coming to the end of my 8-day journey I wanted to recap some of my experiences with you. I found the water and dry fast combo much more manageable and comfortable to do. I did not really have an off day, which is quite common during a longer fast. My sleep was not very good, which can happen during fasting but I was never tired during the next day. I woke up refreshed even at 5 am. I did feel weak or light headed a few times but sucking on pink salt crystals fixed that problem very quickly, like always. I never forced the water, I just drank when I was thirsty so I probably drank less water than during previous fasts. The weight loss started off very strong. Almost 4 kilos during the first 4 days but then it stopped and even crept up a little. I found that a bit frustrating but I don't really have that much weight to lose so I'm trusting that my body knows what it's doing. I did have my period during the fast so that might also contribute to this. The ble
